Crisis intervention strategies, such as bringing a child to the Crisis Nursery before the caregiver becomes abusive, is only the first step in rebuilding a stable, nurturing family.
Parenting Class

Families can easily fall into old patterns of behavior once the crisis has been resolved unless they are taught more effective ways of interacting.

In Parenting Education classes, parents are taught to balance their own needs with their child's, to communicate effectively, to build more positive relationships with their children, to develop realistic expectations, to understand the ages and stages of a child's development and to discipline in a non-abusive manner.

Impact Class

The Impact Class refers to the impact of sexual abuse on an individual's life. This class provides a setting to learn about the effects of sexual abuse from childhood to adulthood. Topics such as family rules, common effects of abuse, effective coping tools, and the importance of a healthy support system are discussed. The class is intended to educate and normalize the effects of childhood sexual abuse for survivors and their families. Anyone who has been effected by sexual abuse, in anyway, is welcome to participate in the class.

Adults Molested as Children (AMAC) Group

There are two different AMAC groups, one in Sugarhouse and one in Midvale, available through The Family Support Center. The groups are designed to assist survivors of sexual abuse to cope with the trauma they experienced when they were young. Group members support one another, relate to each other, and gain a deeper understanding that they are not alone in their struggles. Currently, there are only female AMAC groups available.

Fees for group therapy and classes are charged on the state's sliding fee scale, taking into consideration the client's income and family size.
