The Family Support Center is a non-profit agency that exists with the help of grants and donations. Donations come in various ways.

• Organizations or citizens can ask for our wish list and conduct a drive for items on the list, then donate the items to the FSC.

• Donate your time to the centers as volunteers playing with or supervising children in the crisis nursery.

• Bring in gently used children's clothes, shoes, and toys for use in the center or by families in need.

• Businesses can donate equipment or services.

• Financial donations are always appreciated and can be used for the Crisis Nursery Program, Parent Advocate Program, LifeStart Village, or Family Counseling Program.

• During the holiday season, groups and individuals can help families in need with our Sub-For-Santa Program.

Light a Child's Life

This year has been a difficult one for some of our neighbors here in Utah. Let me tell you about one of the families your dollars have assisted through the Family Support Center. A single mother with three young children moved here from another state. Shortly after she arrived, and before she'd had a chance to establish a support network of friends or neighbors, she became very ill. The mother's condition required hospitalization for several days.

The hospital social worker knew of the Family Support Center's Crisis Nurseries and called to arrange care for the children. The Crisis Nursery supervisor noticed that the youngest, a baby just a few months old, had little appetite and seemed lethargic and small for its age. Upon taking the baby to a pediatrician, it was discovered that the baby had a reflux problem.

The doctor recommended a special formula and instructed that the baby be allowed to sleep in a more upright position in the infant seat. Within a few days, the baby's appetite had improved, the reflux problem was under control and the baby began to gain weight. This grateful mom still brings her children by to visit from time to time and shows off the baby's progress.

One person alone would find it impossible to dispel much heaviness or gloom. But if each of us, in our caring, were to light one little candle, perform one more daily act of kindness, dig a little deeper and give a little more, the brightness may touch even the darkest corners of this community.
